Angry Birds Soon to Invade PSP and PS3
Looks like those Angry birds will be doing more wrecking this year as the flock will be heading to a bigger screen. Sony, the multinational Japanese conglomerate corporation, announced on Monday that mobile phone game sensation ‘Angry Birds’ is at works for Playstation 3 consoles and PSP handheld videogame devices.
The highly addictive puzzle game– one of the great runaway hits of 2010– is currently available exclusive for the iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. This week Sony revealed that it is going to expand its coverage. “The Angry Birds, and their hated egg-stealing pigs, are coming to the PlayStation Network this week,” according to Sony’s official PlayStation blog.
So far, no word on pricing yet, but the iOS version is 99 cents, or $4.99 for the iPad version. The Android version is free, but ad-supported.
According to reports, the PlayStation version will include 63 levels of the game, and will most likely offer the Golden Egg hidden levels. What’s unknown is if it will include the Great Eagle feature that the latest update received.
The insanely popular “Angry Birds” puzzle video game developed by Finland-based Rovio Mobile was released in December 2009 for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch devices. Since its launching, over 50 million downloads have been made across all platforms and 12 million copies of the game have been purchased from Apple’s App Store.
The game, in which players use a slingshot to launch birds at pigs stationed on or within various structures, with the intent of destroying all the pigs on the playfield, has been praised for its successful combination of addictive gameplay, comical style and low price.
Its popularity has encouraged Rovio Mobile to create numerous free updates that add additional game content, and the company has even released stand-alone holiday versions of the game.
Angry Birds became the top-selling paid application on Apple’s UK App Store in February 2010, and reached the top spot on the US App Store in the spring of 2010. The game as been called “one of the most mainstream games out right now” and “one of the great runaway hits of 2010”.
HOW TO PLAY
The game is simple as players take control of a group of birds that are attempting to retrieve eggs that have been stolen by a group of pigs. Using a slingshot, players goal is to launch the birds with the intent of eliminating all the pigs. The pigs, on the other hand, are sheltered by structures made of various materials such as wood, glass and stone. Players can also opt to hit the structure, which would cause them to collapse and kill the pigs
